Boston Marathon on my mind.......

The Boston Marathon that I will not be running on the 19th of this month has been on my mind lately. I am completely over the fact that I will not be there. Really, I am! I have been for a long time now. There are quite a few people from my running club that will be there and I am totally excited for them. I am probably more bummed that I can't make the trip to root them on, more than the fact that I won't be running the actual race! (2011 baby!)
One good thing about not running the race is that I (most likely) have asthma( if you have not heard!). It's not completely under control yet. I can only imagine what some of my 16+ training miles would have felt like these past months. Probably not so good!
Another good thing is that I am not really a fan of running marathons so my longest run this year will be 16 miles--which I already did!
The one thing I am most excited about is the possibility ( oh I hope it all works out!!!!) of getting a new GPS that is debuting at the Boston Marathon. I have connections. Ha. It's the Garmin Forerunner110. You can't even buy it yet. I had my heart set on the Garmin Forerunner 405cx for over a year now and was actually going to get it very, very soon ( taxes were finally done on Saturday!) But things have changed. I even surprised myself with the change of mind. The 110 model is smaller...it won't be a big computer on my wrist! It has less functions then the 405cx, but it has all I need and want really. GPS for running and the heart rate monitor for spinning ( and running and elliptical and living--I love HRMs!). And it's over $100 cheaper! I hope my friend that is buying it for me is able to get it; I have a feeling it will be a hot commodity-being that nobody else can get it until May(suckas!) I hope to get the grey and pink one too. My last GPS was basic black so it's time to add some color! So please...say a little prayer at night that I get this! (only half joking here.)

Thursday's( repost) and Friday Spin!

So yea...not sure what happened to my post yesterday. Strange.....

Anyhow......
I did the circuit from Tuesday only 3x8 this time and we threw in some bi's and tri's too.

I decided to take the day off from cardio--so for me that meant I only did 15 minutes of the elliptical while pushing pretty hard! Ha! I can't help myself. I had time to spare might as well get the heart beating--right?!?!?!
This morning ( FRIDAY) was the first time I taught the 5:30 AM Spin class. It's new to the schedule. There were a few empty bikes, but lots of new faces. I decided to teach my Wednesday class again because there was a spinner from my Monday class. Did not want to make her repeat the same class again.
It went over well. Lots of jumps. The last set was 6 minutes. Whew! I have to teach Totally Toned at noon as well.
I made an impulse purchase yesterday. My GPS is on the fritz and I REALLY want need one!! I went to the sporting goods store and found the Garmin FR 60. To make a long story short..it's not actually a real GPS. It does track time/pace/distance etc. but it does not need a signal to do so. I have to calibrate it. If you are a runner then you KNOW that we are anal beings. I want the exact pace/dist. etc. Soooooo....I will try it out on my long run on Saturday. I love everything else about it though. The heart Rate monitor capabilities as well as the millions of other bells and whistles--are awesome. The owners manual is 48 pages long for Pete's Sake!

I think I shared my Spin class activity too. Love that!

I hope to have a good report back on this handy gadget tomorrow or else I will have to take it back and be heart rate monitorless and GPSless again! Booo!

Timex- Speed plus Distance GPS Review

Today I fell in love with my Timex GPS all over again! My unit is over 4 years old and has served it's purpose for the most part. My husband bought it for me right before my first ( and only) marathon ( Chicago 2005!).

Today my GPS came in really handy. I did speed training on a trail that does not have any mile markers or any way for to know how far I had gone. I needed to run 400 meters 8 times.

So my handy dandy GPS was my mile marker today.

One con of this particular model is that it comes in 2 pieces. The watch and the actual GPS sensor. The sensor can be worn on your arm or clipped to your waist band. I have found that it can be very annoying at either location, but the least annoying is on my arm. Another con being that sometimes it just won't turn on or the radio signal is broken. I am not sure if it's because it's older or what.

The pros are easy! All of the data it shows you: Speed, distance, pace and lots more! I have used all of these options on numerous occasions.
All in all this is a great product. I will be honest and say that I am so ready for an upgrade though! I want to upgrade to a GPS unit that only has 1 piece. I hope to be able to review that one soon!!
